Why Choose the American Youth Soccer Organization ( AYSO) Region 74

AYSO's five philosophies separate us from the pack:
Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, & Good Sportsmanship.

(The home of) Portage, Vicksburg, Schoolcraft
It is the time of year when many of you are deciding which soccer organization is best for your child. We are very fortunate to have a variety of soccer clubs in our area including AYSO, Portage Soccer Club, Vicksburg Sting, Kingdom, and TKO. Each club can provide a very unique and positive experience for your child. It is important that you learn about each organization so you can decide what is the best fit for your child.  AYSO Region 74 is part of a national organization which is committed to provide a fun, fair and safe environment for children between the ages of 4-19 to play soccer.

AYSO has 5 Philosophies including:

·        Positive Coaching
·         Good Sportsmanship
·         Balanced Team
·         Everyone Plays
·         Open Registration

Unique advantages AYSO Region 74 has over other clubs in our area:

Cost:
·         The registration cost for the AYSO Region 74 2008-2009 season is $85 per player. This includes approximately 14 games (7 Fall / 7 Spring) and a uniform.
·         We offer a multiplayer discount to families.
·         Other clubs start at approximately $275 for the season and go much higher.
·         There are additional costs to playing with other clubs including the cost of travel around West Michigan and beyond. With gas at $4 per gallon this can become significant.

Convenience:
·         With very few exceptions, all of our AYSO Region 74 games are played at PSC (Portage Soccer Complex) PSC
·         PSC is considered by many to be the finest facility in the area and indeed the State of Michigan. Other clubs play games at a variety of venues.
·         AYSO games for each division are generally scheduled for the same day and time for the entire season, making scheduling easier for families. Other clubs play most of their games on Saturday and Sunday but the time will vary each week.
·         AYSO teams practice once a week during the season. This allows kids to participate in multiple activities. Most club teams practice at least twice a week.

Fun:
·         AYSO is a recreational, no pressure environment for your child to play soccer.
·         Many experts agree that kids eventually quit playing sports because "it's not fun anymore."

Everyone Plays

Our program's goal is for kids to play soccer-so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game.

Balanced Teams

Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible-because it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play.

Open Registration

Our program is open to all children between 4 and 19 years of age who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing.

Positive Coaching

Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment by the players and ultimately leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players.

Good Sportsmanship

We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.
